JOHN
BOYLE & COMPANY
JOINS AMERICA'S CUP
For over 140 years John Boyle &
Company has been a part of the American boating scene
supplying its fabric and accessories
to professional and amateur sailors alike. Given his
long history of maritime sailing, it
was a natural extension of Boyle's customer base to
support Dennis Conner and the Stars &
Stripes Team in the 2000 America's Cup races.
Over the years John Boyle & Company
has been called upon to provide fabrics and hard
ware for some extremely demanding
applications. During the 29th Americas Cup season, John
Boyle provided fabric that would fit
around the yacht's hull while still in the water. The
intent was to hide their keel and
rudder design from the fierce competition.
The company provides much of the
material used above deck as well. Boyle created the first crimpless scrim reinforced
laminates used by Dennis Conner.
John Boyle proudly supports team
Dennis Conner with his Starts & Stripes sailboat
participation this year in Aukland,
New Zealand. "We're excited to have the opportunity to
participate in this event," says John
Boyle Bell, CEO of John Boyle & Co. and Dennis Conner's father-in-law.
Coincidentally, John Boyle will
celebrate its 140th birthday this year. The company
roots just happen to be in sailing
industry with a loft founded in 1860 in Brooklyn, New York
by an English sailmaker by the name of
John Boyle. Just as technology changes, some things just remain
the same. Good luck to Stars & Stripes! |
